Woodworm Treatment

Woodworm is a term used to describe an infestation of wood by the larvae of woodboring beetles. These larvae eat their way through furniture, structural beams and other wood which has not been looked after properly. On this page we'll run down what you can do in regards to woodworm treatment.

Once you have identified that you have a woodworm infestation you are going to want to know what options you have available, right?

There are two main types of woodworm treatment products which I recommend, these are varnishes and sprays. A woodworm treatment spray is applied directly into the boreholes in which the woodworm larvae live and uses insecticides to kill them.

For lasting protection from woodworm however you are going to want to use a varnish contain an insecticide. These varnishes are applied all over the effected piece of wood and kill any woodworm larvae that are currently living in it. Not only that but the varnish will provide a lasting protection that will prevent reinfection of your wood. This is crucially important as adult woodboring beetles are known to lay their eggs directly into the holes which are left by hatching pupae.

To prevent a woodworm infestation occuring in the first place it is key to make sure that your wood and your home is well looked after. By making sure that your wood is kept out of damp and poorly ventilated conditions you are making it much more difficult for woodworm beetles to lay their eggs and produce larvae.
